"Old Times" : Friday, July 30 at 8:00PM

Our Summer Readers Theatre Program will perform "Old Times" by Nobel Laureate, Harold Pinter, featuring Gillian Swanson, Dee Dee Van Zyl and Tim Williams. The reading will be directed by Gillian Swanson.

"Old Times" is an intriguing, mysterious examination of memory, time and relationship. The play begins in a seaside cottage with married couple Kate and Deeley. Kate recalls that her old friend Anna, who is coming to visit them was an underwear thief. Anna and Deeley prove to be quite evenly matched as they parry with memories and intimacies shared with Kate. Anna muses, There are some things one remembers even though they may never have happened. There are things I remember which may never have happened but as I recall them so they take place. Anna also notes, You have a wonderful casseroleI mean wife. The play has the usual Pinteresque suspense and sense of menace, but it is more obscure and includes one of Pinter's most enigmatic closing scenes.

 

WHAT IS READER’S THEATRE?
Like storytelling, reader’s theater creates images that could never be realistically portrayed on stage. Space and time can be shrunk or stretched and fantastic worlds are created. Reader’s Theater frees both performers and audience from the physical limitations of conventional theater, letting the imagination soar.

Our next production is "Dracula", opening October 8th with 10 performances on weekends through October 30th. We are holding auditions on Monday and Tuesday, August 30 and 31 at 7:00pm at the theatre, 113 E. Callender Street

THE 2010 SEASON AT THE BLUE SLIPPER THEATRE

"The Mousetrap" February 12 to March 6. Acclaimed mystery writer Agatha Christie's hit about a group of strangers, one of whom is a murderer, stranded in a boarding house during a snow storm. One by one, the cast of characters falls victim to the killer.

"The Nerd" April 23 through May 16. The action centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect who is visited by a man he's never met, but who saved his life in Vietnam. The visitor turns out to be an incredibly inept, hopelessly stupid "nerd" who outstays his welcome with a vengeance.

"Dracula" October 8 through October 30 The classic horror story that has captivated audiences for over 100 years, written by Hamilton Deane and John L. Bladerston, is adapted from Bram Stoker's novel. Lucy Seward has been attacked by some mysterious illness. Dr. Van Helsing believes that the girl is the victim of a vampire! The vampire is found to be a certain Count Dracula.

"Greetings" November 19 through December 11. Written by Tom Dudzick, "Greetings" is the story of Andy, who has a sweet Catholic mother, a sour Catholic father, and a severely mentally handicapped younger brother named Mickey. When Andy brings his Jewish fiance to meet the folks on Christmas Eve, his worst fears about family blow-ups are realized. An ancient, wise and witty spirit who is set on healing the family borrows Mickey's body to deliver a message.

"Annual Christmas Variety Show" December 17 and 18. Each year the Blue Slipper Theatre presents two nights of free entertainment as a "thank you" for all of your support. Performances consist of holiday music, poignant readings about the holiday season, and comic sketches. Acts in previous years have included The Gallatin Valley Accordion Ensemble, The Prairie Wind Jammers, mens' and womens' barbershop quartets, as well as skits and readings by area actors.
